Taste of success is sweet ...... Samridhi(FT13164)

“Lingam Sweets and Bakery”, located right in the hustle-bustle of the Mahabalipuram’s main market, manufactures different varieties of popular and high quality sweets and confectionaries. The shop was started around 20 years back by Mr K Vel Sany to cater to the demands of the local people.

History: It started with a small set up selling only sweets. However, gauging the customers wants and demand, it quickly expanded and now the shop delivers value proposition to customers by not only providing the sweets but also delivering cold drinks, snacks, biscuits, cakes etc to the customer. K Vel Sany also owns a small store near the shop which he uses as cooking area. The store is around 20*30 feet. Their production system is based on customer demand. According to the season and market demands they alter their production quantity.
The owner is very particular about the quality of the sweets and other items that are manufactured in the shop. They make sure that this is instilled down to everyone working in the shop. USP of this shop is its milk and ghee sweets. We get fresh and pure milk and ghee sweets here. These sweets last for around 2-3 days and after that they are disposed off, if not sold. Being in the food business, the team understands the notions of providing high quality service- which is quick and pleasant.
The eatables are priced competitively.
Locational Advantage: It is located at a prime location in the market within the line of sight of all who visit the market. So, not only does it cater to the sweet palate of the locals (who are regular repeat customers) and the tourists who come to visit Mahapalipuram (These are the occasional customers who want to have a taste of local delicacies), but also lures in the customers who come to do business in the market place.
Being a small business, it doesn’t advertise glamorously, however, relies on word of mouth publicity for the promotion of their sales. Overtime, the shop has generated a great goodwill in the neighbourhood and is the choice of place for people to have their morning and evening snacks and light brunch.

Competition: has not affected the business much. However, the shop doesn’t yet provide other necessary items like tea and coffee which go along with the snacks normally in this part of the country. The owner wants to expand to these areas a well.
