Day at a Hair Salon - Sampat FT13163


In my recent visit to Bangalore, I was moving around with my wife. Then a beauty salon and spa caught our attention. As it was a unisex salon, we made up our mind to give it a try. The experience was quite different from what we have at the normal hair dressers. It catered to all the beauty requirements starting from a normal haircut to bridal make up. The staffs there were well educated in their field and were expert in either the male or female department of the store. Looking at the things that they offer, I decided to get a haircut.

 My hair dresser was well educated and he spoke real good English. He said that this was one of the requirements as they also get foreigners as customers. First thing that was really impressive is that all the staff there have done a course in beauty services like haircuts, hair styling, hair colour, hair straightening, hair treatments, basic facials, spa facials, treatment facials, bridal makeup, bridal mehndi, party makeup etc. The list that the guy shared was very exhaustive.

The courses start from about INR 60,000 per course.

My hair dresser had done his course from YLG. The courses include basics of using scissors & combs, brushes, hair dryer, hair straightener. In the course of 6 months, they learn about the art of hair styling. They are taught about various haircuts and which hair cut suits which type of face i.e. square, oval, round etc. After that they graduate to hair treatments and hair colouring. They practice there as interns. After they are done, they receive a certificate which is accepted by many leading spas and salons.

- Matrix

The number of customers visiting on a weekday is about 20-30. Their major business is on weekends when the number of customers visiting them reaches about 200. The location of the salon has a lot to play in this regard as it’s located in a residential area. Most of the customers are regular customers who come back because of their previous experiences at the salon. For retaining their customer base, they give offers to them like combo packs for all family members, complete hair solutions at a reduced rate etc. During festive seasons, they give additional offers to attract more customers. By the time my hair cut was over, there were some guys waiting for their turn. So it was time to leave the comfortable recliner and get back home.
